Here are the minutes from the public meeting held on Sunday, 4/16/00. The meetings are usually held at Noon PST(VZT) each Sunday in front of the Village Apartments.
This week's topic was: General Questions.

Michael (Avaterra): We would like to start with an announcement, which will be followed by another announcement. Last week, and the week before, we told you that Guides Cuz and Kenn are our latest Caretakers in training. They will take on the title of a Caretaker when the launch date of their zones approaches. Today, we would like to introduce Caretaker Cuz (this is the first announcement). and we thought this community meeting would be a good opportunity to do this. After all, why should you, the people, not see how this is done? <grin>

Michael (Avaterra): Now that Cuz has changed her name, this can only mean that a brand new zone is approaching - that our world will grow. Cuz, can you tell us more, please? <grin>
Caretaker Cuz: I am very happy to announce the upcoming opening of the newest zone. It is going to be VZSciFi!!! It will open very soon, please stay tuned to the newspaper for exact opening details
Caretaker Cuz: Yes, it will be part of this world and your avs here may go there. Many new locales. You will be able to travel to Outer Space and see other planets. The UK artists are working very hard to finish it up and bring it to us. I think that is about it, please watch the newspaper for more details coming soon.

Michael (Avaterra): No, there is no official list .. most prices for rare items are based on what people are willing to pay for an item.

Michael (Avaterra): No, not at this time. Some of the bodies have a few movements that could be used for additional gestures, but not all bodies - and they are not yet animated. It's an option for the future, a definite one.

Caretaker Selara: I agree. There are some good articles in the newspaper on security. Always use a Guide or trusted third person for sales and trades. Do NOT put anyone on your lease unless you are prepared for them to own all your things.

Michael (Avaterra): A group of teenagers approached recently and asked for support for a teenage project ... we promised our support ... so, now let's wait what they come up with.

Red Enflamed DevilChild: Okay I was wondering, could u guys implement a PIN NUMBER option in the 'being tested' lockable chests, so that only he sole owner of the box can open it, plus the option to remove someone from ur lease just in case some1 turns untrusty
Michael (Avaterra): That is how the lockable chests will work - in order to open or lock them, you will have to know the PIN of the chest. As for turfs ... all owners of a turf are equal. If you do not fully trust someone, you should not add them to the lease -- once you do, they are equal owners.

Snow King: just a quick statement lol The Community Assistamce project is progressing nicely, the turf is set, I have a few volunteers ready to helps those that need it. I'm working on the web page now that will explain our goals, the role we'll play in trying to make things easier. Any that wish to volunteer a little time to help plz esp Snow King. One other item. I've witnessed a few arguements lately with newbies that have pretty foul with the language, inticing people into arguements or even threatening some. PLZ use the ignore feature on them and page a guide. Don't let them goad you into a fight, it disrupts any games going on, angers others and bring them into the fight. This is their goal to disrupt as much as they can. Its far easier to ignore them and easier on your nerves. If an avie threatens you, use the get text if you have it and save it for Guide or Caretaker, let them handle it, they have better ways to deal with it. Thank you all Huggggs

Michael (Avaterra): <I use a notebook too> This is a known issue ...can't say much else ... but we are aware of the problem with the screen size. I think chances are that this will be fixed in v3.1. <release date to be announced soon>

Michael (Avaterra): This is a good opportunity for a warning -- we heard about people setting up web pages that supposedly give access to a private VZone ... and ask for your account name and password. Please don't fall for it. There are no private "invite only" zones.

TonyC: I was wondering if there is anyway to change the name you use when you log into Vz? I was directed to the page to change your Password but there was no option to change the user name. Is there a option I am over looking?

GregF: There is a big problem in VZ there are few avies that are going around aasking people to download the "mega patch" and giving them a URL these patches are a big problem and something needs to be done about it I know you can't help people making them but... they are pretty powerful and do a lot of bad things.
Delilah (Avaterra): using the patches is against our ToM and members take the unfortunate chance when they download any software that modifies the client
Michael (Avaterra): We are aware of the patches, and what they do. And not only do they violate the Terms of Membership, they are also quite dangerous. We have had many cases where patches contained hidden functions that gave other avatars control over the avatar of "patched" members.

Michael (Avaterra): quite frankly, even if they weren't against TOM, I would not use them. No matter what, and no matter how cool the promised features.

Guiyon: Will there be customizable teleport scripts? It would be easier if you needed to get to your turf, you could make a teleport script to get there when you needed to. or anywhere else
Michael (Avaterra): There are some security issues ... for example, you wouldn't want other people to teleport in your turf. and we wouldn't want peole to teleport to backstage areas. The idea is a good one ... we just have to find some solutions for the security problems first.
Guiyon: Greg just suggested to me that you could make an option that would make teleporting not allowed to turfs or any other locale Like you would lock your tuf door
