Origins

This was originally the origins of WA in general and whilst it is intertwined with the Dreamscape, it is better to keep them seperate. This particular section will eventually focus on the origins of the Dreamscape itself.

An end of beta party was held on 29th August 1995 at the Bar-L Bar[4].

Timeline of inworld events

This is a list of inworld events that happened and where possible, the date they happened. This list is subjective as so much happened inworld. The criteria for making this list is that it could be storyline related, or an event of note or something that went down in infamy.

1995

August

13th

  • The first ever Ghost Race is held inworld and the first ever winner was an avatar named “Shaker”, who won a spider[5].

Unknown Date

  • The WorldsAway 0.8 client released[6].
  • The spraycan class is introduced[7].

September

28th

  • The Temple of Morpheus Grand Opening is held[8][9].

Unknown Date

  • The StarWay Cafe Grand Opening is held[10].
  • The first wedding is held in the Dreamscape[11].

October

Unknown Date

  • Halloween Celebrations are held inworld and the world is decorated with Halloween themed decor[12].

November

15th

  • The WorldsAway 1.0 client is released[13].

December

15th

  • The WorldsAway client is released on CD's which are distributed via CompuServe[14].
  • "SantaLand" is held inworld from December 15th until December 25th, 1995[15].

1996

February

Unknown Date

  • The Month of Romance event is held inworld[16].

March

19th

  • The Void storyline is introduced into the world[17].. The Void was a place where avatars who broke the Terms of Service could be sent as a time out. It was originally just one region you couldn't escape from, but a later version was created that was an endless maze that looped back on itself that you couldn't escape. Only Oracles had the power to send you to The Void or remove you from it.

April

16th

  • The WorldsAway 1.1 client is released[18].

26th

  • The Temple Street Terrace turf building is opened to the public[19].

July

Unknown Date

  • The NuYu building is re-opened after a remodel and the heads in the vending machine are rotated[20].

August

1st

  • The first ever Fern Day holiday was celebrated[21].. The server experienced issues throughout most of the day however.

Unknown Date

  • The Kymer Unity Event is held inworld[22].
  • The accessory class is introduced to the world[23].
  • The Promenade hatchery sequence is remodeled to provide a smoother experience[24].
  • Acolyte Powers are introduced to the world for the first time, enabling remote volunteers to be able to moderate the service without needing full access to the world database[25]. Those powers included the power to freeze an avatar so they cannot move, to mute an avatar so they cannot speak and to force an avatar into ghost form so they are no longer an avatar[26].

September

  • The Kymer International University is launched[27].

October

Unknown Date

  • Halloween is celebrated and new accessories, knicknacks and animated heads are released inworld[28].

November

1st

  • The Meditation Park area opens[29].

December

Unknown Date

  • SantaLand returns, alongside the avatar of Kymer Kringle, who was played by any of the three Dreamscape Oracles of the time[30].

1997

February

  • The second Month of Romance event is held inworld[31].

March

  • The Isle Caribe area is opened up[32].

June

1st

  • The Monument Square area is opened to the public[33].

11th

  • Acolyte Appreciation day is held and a ceremony is performed at Monument Square, presided by all three Oracles.

July

Unknown Date

  • The WorldsAway client and server software was upgraded to version 2.0[34].. This required the Dreamscape world to be offline for most of the day, whilst database conversion tools were ran to upgrade everything to the latest version.

September

6th

  • The Jungle opens[35].

1998

March

29th

  • Oracle Teresias renounces Morpheus, embraces Phobetor and leaves the Dreamscape[36].

April

24th

  • The End of the age of Oracles and the beginning of the age of Avatars[37].
