Stuff to do

Build up a timeline of events mentioning the following stuff (in chronological order)

  • Lucasfilm created Habitat
  • Fujitsu licensed Habitat to create Fujitsu Habitat
  • Chip and Randy helped Fujitsu negotiate with Lucasfilm/Lucasarts (check the date) to buy the Habitat IP outright. (info directly from conversations with Randy Farmer)
  • Chip and Randy sued Lucasfilm/Lucasarts over royalties related to the Fujitsu/Lucas deal. They eventually settled. (info directly from conversations with Randy Farmer)
  • Fujitsu wanted Fujitsu Habitat II (Was a western audience always intended? Why didn't they develop it in Japan? was this because of the way things got lost in translation between Habitat and FJ Habitat? or was it just easier because Chip and Randy were in the USA to build it there and then localize for Japanese.
  • Mention the FINE plan presentation being made to Fujitsu Limited in Kawasaki, Japan on September 21, 1993. (info directly from conversations with Randy Farmer)
  • Furukawa from Fujitsu Limited put Randy Farmer in charge of the Habitat II project in 1994. (info directly from conversations with Randy Farmer)
  • Mention the funding by Fujitsu of the FINE plan and how this worked alongside the development of WA.
  • Mention Fujitsu passing on the right of first refusal in implementing the FINE plan. (info directly from conversations with Randy Farmer)
  • Mention Electric Communities drafting the "Cyberspace Protocol Requirements" and them pitching it to venture capitalists in 1995. Once they got their first million dollar check, Electric Communities left the WorldsAway project. (info directly from conversations with Randy Farmer)
  • Mention Randy and Chip leaving to continue on with Electric Communities and what would eventually end up being EC Habitats
  • Talk about how WA was delayed from the middle of 1994, up until Ron Lichty came onboard in spring 1995 where he was given an ultimatum to get things launched by August 31st of that year or have funding withdrawn. (info directly from conversations with Ron Lichty)
  • Talk about how many features had to be cut in order to release version 0.8 (the first external testing version). Refer to Ron's email about his performance review with Tony Christopher.
  • Talk about WA all the way up to the sale of the WA division in May 1999.
  • Don't forget to mention Habitat II and Glass City
